Hunza Winter Festival
Overview
The Hunza Winter Festival is held in Hunza Valley every year from December 28 to December 31. This festival on Attabad Lake features ice hockey, skating, cultural performances, and traditional games such as Basra, Pindok, and Baalbut.
Itinerary
Departure point: Departure from Lahore / Islamabad
Islamabad
Airport welcome and hotel transfer. Rest after your journey, with an optional evening walk or shopping in Islamabad.
Islamabad to Gilgit
Arrive in Gilgit by air or road along the Karakoram Highway, then drive 2–3 hours to Hunza. Check in at Karimabad or Altit. If the flight is cancelled, overnight in Gilgit.
Festival Opening and Ice Sports
Travel to Attabad Lake for the opening ceremony, ice hockey and skating (including women's teams), and traditional games. Evening cultural performances such as Risme Tao and Risme Shop.
Festival Day
Morning at the festival for more winter sports. Ice walking and photography on Attabad Lake. Afternoon Hunza cuisine, then a grand cultural show with Mayfung rites, folk music, and dance.
Sightseeing in Hunza
Visit Baltit Fort and Altit Fort, then Eagle's Nest for views of Ultar Sar, Ladyfinger Peak, and Rakaposhi. Time in the bazaar for handicrafts, Hunza caps, and dried apricots.
Festival and Gulmit Exploration
Morning closing activities at Attabad Lake. Afternoon in Gulmit Village — Wakhi culture, Hussaini Suspension Bridge, and Gulmit Museum — then return to Karimabad.
Passu and Nagar Valley
Day trip to Passu Cones and Passu Glacier. If weather and roads allow, continue to Khunjerab Pass (4,693 m). Evening farewell meal in Karimabad with folk music.
Fly to Islamabad
Drive to Gilgit and fly to Islamabad, with optional time in Gilgit depending on the flight.
Fly to Home Country
Breakfast included. Airport transfers on your departure timing. Partner hotel checkout is 12 pm.
